David R. Hefner (mother’s maiden name: Hand).
Undergraduate degree from Baylor University in Early Childhood Education.
MFA in Painting from the University of Texas in Austin.
Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas in Austin.
Teaching: Taught kindergarten for seven years at the Open Door Preschool, Austin, and then traded kindergarten for the next closest thing - college art.
Hefner became a Senior Lecturer at Texas State University, San Marcos, teaching
Studio: Watercolor, Art Education: Art Theory and Practice. Hefner also supervised Art Education student-teachers, kindergarten through high school.
At the end of the spring semester in 2020, with the onset of the Covid Pandemic, the University made a generous offer to eligible faculty members for early retirement. Hefner accepted. (Keyword: early).
He is now full-time in his Austin backyard barn/studio and coop/shop
(& swimming regularly at Deep Eddy Pool).
